Cards (an acrostic poem)

Chips were tossed into the pot as the round was dealt

Amber looked at her hand and a pair of kings stared back

Reaching for her chips, she tossed in her raise

Dudes wouldn’t know what hit them since she had bluffed the last two hands

She was surprised when everyone immediately folded

Exposed (an acrostic poem)

Everyone was playing so well, but now it was time to crescendo

Xylophone mallets at the ready, Bob waited for his cue for his first ever solo

Practically tasting the increase in intensity, Bob’s hands started to sweat

Only Bob didn’t dare dry them, he just concentrated on not letting them slip

Suddenly it was time for Bob to play.  He swung the mallets downward

Everything slowed down as Bob watched it all go so wrong

Down went the poleaxed conductor, and so ended Bob’s career

Hard (an acrostic poem)

Huge difficult things were coming down the pipeline, but Jenny could handle it

And all she needed to do was work more than everyone else

Reaching for her alcoholic cider, she enjoyed its crisp bite

Didn’t they know she was as tough as diamond?  They would soon.

Sleepless (an acrostic poem)

Slowly the space between seconds became longer and longer

Leaving me breathless as I contemplated what was happening

Eventually I gave up and got out of bed

Everything I walked by was absolutely still

People didn’t even blink when I threatened them

Leaving my house behind I went out in the world

Even there time had stopped

Silently I began to cry

So wish I had been able to snooze

Mary Jane (an acrostic poem)

Musing in the heady fog, Shelia looked at her story

Already her main character had done so many cool things

Really she had to considering all the shit Shelia put her through

You would think Shelia hated her, but it couldn’t be farther from the truth

Just as she took another hit, the idea hit her

Amazing she had never thought of this before

Now she puffed twice as fast as the clack of the keyboard became staccato

Even as the high wore off, the buzz of writing remained
