Tarts (an acrostic poem)

The date had gone well till dessert

At that point, her expression soured

Ralph let go of the final pastry

The fact he had not even offered to share made the atmosphere acerbic

So he learned a lesson.  Skip the sweet stuff till the date is done

Hater (an acrostic poem)

Howling in frustration at not being able to participate

Abby kicked her sister as hard as she could

That made Matty scream, “Why did you do that?”

Even if I wanted to, Abby said, I can’t kick the whole team

Reactions like that made Matty wonder the border between being a lover and a …

Get Paid (an acrostic poem)

Ginny hated volunteering with a passion

Even if it was for an awesome cause like the animal shelter

That’s why she was in such a black mood, but she was there

Patrick came in, happy to see Ginny showed up

As he handed her her favorite coffee he turned up the wattage of his smile

It made Ginny rethink this whole volunteering thing

Dollars weren’t the only currency around

Shade (an acrostic poem)

Shadows danced in his eyes, and that’s what mesmerized her

He haunted her every waking moment, and then those dreams

Any difference between dream and reality were very slight variations

Darkening her ability to keep a coherent thought

Eventually, his veil was lifted, but it was too late for her

King Me (an acrostic poem)

Keeping on top was always Bob’s goal

It allowed him to jump over the obstacles in his way

Now the playing field was empty of most of the chafe

Giving Bob a clear idea of who is real competition was

Moving diagonally, he finally found his home

Enabling him to kick it to the next level

Reborn (a 200 word start)

Her world was pitch black darkness.  Actually, it was darkness and water, but after not breathing for so long she didn’t really notice the wetness.  She didn’t have a concept of time, but she did know her chains hand rusted and broken a while back.

She felt around the floor of her prison and found a large stone.   She picked a spot she thought was the same as last time and began hammering.  It might take millennia to get through, but she had that and more.  Still, she hoped she had picked the right direction.  She didn’t relish chipping her way through Mount Torlock.

That’s when she heard a muffled noise to her right.  She shifted her attention and started to hammer there.  She had been pointing in the wrong direction.  How long had she been off course?

Suddenly there was an explosion of sound.  Light poured into her prison as the water poured out.  She shoved herself out of the hole, reborn again into this world, and this time she would do the swatting.  Before any swatting could occur, though, she retched up the water in her lungs and stomach next to her.  Not the start she had imagined…
