Destiny (an acrostic poem)

Determined to be the great hope since birth

Emily always had the burden of being the chosen one

She was chosen to watch her sisters, chosen to become a doctor

Then she was chosen for lifting her family out of poverty

It was enough to be soul-crushing

Never was she allowed to do something just for herself

Yet when she finally fulfilled all the predictions she took her own life as a way of claiming it back

Cash (an acrostic poem)

Counterfeit bills lined his bedroom like wallpaper

And he doesn’t tell his “visitors” the difference

So when they take their due and leave he just prints more

He should have felt bad, but he just didn’t give a buck

Eternity Could Wait (a 150 word story)

The time had come to say goodbye, but Liam didn’t want to let go.  Sixty-three years of marriage would do that to you.  He looked down on his wife, her eyes closed, her hands across her chest.  It almost brought tears to his eyes again.  He reached out and brushed her cheek.

Her eyes fluttered open.  She searched the room, but nope, her husband was still gone.  She was absolutely sure she had felt him.  She felt the tears well up again.  When will they ever stop?  She rolled over to cry silently into her pillow.  Why did he have to leave her?

He saw her look straight through him, not seeing his ghostly spirit.  He knew he should go on to whatever fate he had waiting, but well, sixty-three years of marriage.  Instead, he blew her a kiss and contented himself with watching over her.  Eternity could wait.

Dual Wielding (an acrostic poem)

Double the trouble was not what Marcus wanted

Usually, he tried to avoid fighting when time traveling

As it didn’t really prove anything in his world

Looking at the two thugs with their swords drawn he knew he didn’t have a choice

Watching his foes split apart, he hesitated drawing his weapons

If he played his hand too quickly he would lose his only surprise

Everything would come down to timing

Lazily he took a small step back

Daring his attackers to press their perceived advantage

It must have been too good a temptation

Now they charged him.  He pulled out twin pistols from where they were hidden

Going to be tough to explain the bodies, but better them than him

Restart (an acrostic poem)

Rust crumbled from the ’57 Chevy

Eroding the metal shell

Slowly stealing away the car’s soul

Transforming into reddish-brown dust

Alex scooped up some of the oxidized metal

Rubbing her hands on her leather apron she headed to the forge

The idea of melting it down and recasting it seemed fitting

Anxiety (an acrostic poem)

Anxiously, she slowly opened the valve

Nicki held her breath as the cell began to fill

Xenon gas soon displaced the oxygen

It supposedly made the experiment safe

Everything in her soul screamed that something was wrong

That’s when she heard a tink sound

Yelling she threw herself to the floor, but nothing happened

Gold (an acrostic poem)

Going all in all the way is the only choice

Or else you have failed yourself and your country

Leave your very soul on the mat at the end to achieve your goal

Delivering the highest spot on that Olympian podium
