Ominous (an acrostic poem)

Outside, the darkness was pierced by the full moon

Making the fallen leaves look hauntingly surreal

It was then we she heard the sound of something approaching

Nearer it got, the faster it seemed to be moving, the louder it became, the harder her heart beat

Old primal fears rose from the depths of her hindbrain.  She began to flee the sound

Undulating ground eventually caught her foot causing her to sprawl to the ground

Still, the sounds were getting closer, faster, louder.

Shoe (an acrostic poem)

So many options to pick from, Dan pondered his choices

High tops, cowboy boots, moccasins, loafers

Or sandals, flip-flops, or maybe his purple Crocs

Eveline slipped on her sensible clack flats and left.

She wasn’t going to be late to the party.  Men!

Float (an acrostic poem)

Finding themselves adrift among the waves of emotion

Lifted by the manic highs then dropped into the depressed lows

Oblivious to what used to be normal and peacefully flat

As they bobbed along, unable to control their emotional path

That was when they contemplated letting go and sinking into eternal oblivion to make it stop

Normally I don’t post more after a poem, but I want everyone to be careful. Most of the time we can float through our lives and manage what storms are sent our way. For some, they are ready to let go. If you are one of those wondering if it is worth holding on, please first call the suicide prevention hotline: 800-273-8255. It is worth that one last chance to find an anchor.

Music (an acrostic poem)

Making passionate love to my soul

Under the vibrating cones of the massive speakers

Sound crashing out in waves and washing over me

It transports me to a place of tranquility

Carrying the problems of the world away for a small bit of time

Hide (an acrostic poem)

Hoping they wouldn’t find you as you snuck into the graveyard.

It might be foolish to go there during a zombie apocalypse, but…

Days had gone by since it had started.  This might be the safest place.

Except you didn’t expect there would be late risers!

Buddy (an acrostic poem)

Being with you is one of the best things in my life

Under the full moon, with mischief on our minds

Doing deeds we will never talk about unless copious amounts of alcohol are consumed

Determined to make our mark on this world

You know, like the tatts we gave each other

Rip (an acrostic poem)

Reducing the document to confetti

It made her feel so good to be finally free

Perhaps leaving the remnants of their marriage certificate on his grave was a bit petty, but he wasn’t going to hurt her ever again

Chef (an acrostic poem)

Cuisine so fine that that it demanded to be taken out for a dinner date

He showered her with flavors that were tart, sweet, salty, and spicy

Everything balanced to a perfection, a true masterpiece of culinary art

Food may be temporally empheneral, but the memories of that meal will be eternal

Sleep (an acrostic poem)

So there you are, lying in the dark

Looking for sweet oblivion, but the only oblivion you’ve seen lately was on a milk cartons

Every minute seems like an hour

Every hour seems like days

Punishing your snooze button when the alarm startles you awake moments after you finally fell
