Cold (an acrostic poem)

Chilled to her bones, she tried to finish her typing, listening to the percussive clatter of the keys

Only the chattering wasn’t just the keyboard, but her teeth beat a duet with her fingers

Leaving her to wonder if the furnace was ever going to kick in

Didn’t remember she had placed a hold on it so no heat came for a long time

Pencil (an acrostic poem)

People say the pen is mightier than the sword

Except they are missing the point, the manually sharpened point

Now you could include mechanical versions, but that is such a lazy game

Can’t use all geometric aspects of the lead to create crisp lines to gentle shading

It is a uni-tasker, and as such fits more of the pen diatribe

Let’s admit it, all the power you need is located in a good No. 2…

Kick (an acrostic poem)

Keeping his mouth’s pain level in mind, he put more hot sauce on the chicken

Its deep red color promising pleasure mixed with the pain

Cramming a huge bite into his mouth, he felt his hair begin to seat

Knowing his stomach would be further wrecked with the moonshine chaser that followed.

Dark Side (an acrostic poem)

Deep brooding was always expected of him

And the propensity to wear many different colors, as long as they were black

Really that was a lie.  Only one black would do, absolute pitch black

Keeping things sleek, simple, and sophisticated

See, your typical evil-doer was supposed to be better at life than the hero

It made for a more compelling story when the hero used their scrappiness to win the day

Didn’t feel right, though, to have all the gifts just to get one-upped by a barely house-trained puppy

Evil must have its flaw, and he knew his intimately.  That’s why he had placed a small fortune bet on the “hero”.

Fierce (an acrostic poem)

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread was his favorite proverb

It encapsulated his life in ways that spanned from ludicrous to profound

Ever since he was a boy, he would do the near impossible, twist fate into pretzels, and never miss a beat

Reveling in the audacity of the chaos he spread around like seeds from a dandelion caught in a tornado

Could do no wrong, and it was just the way of the universe

Evidently when you held your guardian angel hostage, you could ever be the fool, but were you?

Pit (an acrostic poem)

Perhaps he should have been more careful in choosing the path he took

It would have made sense because there are dangers all around

That’s why it didn’t surprise him when he took one step too far and fell into the…

Oath (an acrostic poem)

Once the ritual words were uttered

And the two men spat in their palms and shook hands

Then the pact was sealed as witnessed by those around

How such a silly contrivance made something binding made her head spin

Searching for conspiracists to spread the word

To make sure the world knows the truths

Of mysteries and magic, of history and the future, of the real and the surreal

Rascals and damsels, princesses and princes, paupers and millionaires

You up for the challenge? All you need to join is to pick up a book and read.
