Smoke (an acrostic poem)

So many wires going here and there

More than what is needed right now, but you want to be ready for the future

Oh I know it can get confusing, but that’s okay

Keep track of everything right up here in my big old brain

Except I forgot and now the smoke alarm is going off. Damn!

*a semi-fictitious tale. There was no smoke in my case. lol

Coffee (an acrostic poem)

Cup of her liquid wakeup was held close to her nose

Olfactory sensors lit up her brain with anticipation

Followed with her stomach preparing for the scalding acidic onslaught

Fluid of the darkest black splashed and sloshed along her tongue

Everything in her mouth screamed as the heat seared her taste buds

Except she considered that her wakeup alarm symphony.  The day could now begin.

Sprint (an acrostic poem)

Scurrying thoughts running crazy inside his head

Put him on his mental treadmill, trying to exercise them away

Reaching an exhaustion level that would allow him to fall unconscious

It sometimes worked, but tonight the ideas and thoughts were too fast

Not that he gave up dashing after them, but waking hours passed slowly

That’s what made the alarm the next morning such a rude starting pistol for the new day

Armor (an acrostic poem)

As her alarm heralded a new call to battle

Randi braced herself for another day in the trenches

Making her coffee extra strong, it sent her heart racing

On went her power suit and matching shoe briefcase combo

Reaching for her favorite pen, she was ready for war

Run Away (an acrostic poem)

Really Paul knew he should get out of there

Undercaffeinated and out of time

Nothing left in reserves

And yet here he was, a flaming branch in one hand

Watching the monster squint in his direction

All he wanted to do was to wake up from this nightmare

Yet he knew his alarm clock was never going to go off again

Fatherhood In These Modern Times (a 150 word story)

The simple sound of a baby crying pierced the night, causing Bob to bleed from his stubbed toe as he became the first responder.  The little bundle of joy was empty of joy, and thus the alarm was going off, but Bob couldn’t find the off switch, even after changing the wet encasing.  He tried moving it around to activate the snooze, but that didn’t work either.  Soon he decided that the alarm was a low energy notice.  He plugged the baby into the recharging device and watched the fluid level on the device drain to zero.  The recharge worked, as the baby went back into low power sleep mode.  Bob thought about putting the baby where it belonged but worried that the jostling alarm had been reset, and he was worried about setting it off.  Instead, he closed his eyes and snuggled the sleeping baby close to his heart.

Nightmare (an acrostic poem)

New sounds erupted from behind Marc

It spurred him to run even faster

Gun shots rang out, shattering the asphalt on either side of him

He made a hard right turn to get some cover from a parked Hummer

The tires on the vehicle soon flattened

Marc fumbled for his gun before peaking up above the hood

A silence descended on the scene, and Marc couldn’t see his assailants

Rapidly his heart hammered as he waited for a target

Everything exploded when his alarm went off and he woke up
