Jumping around to the massive beat
As the band played on and on
Made them sweat out any bad vibes

Skill (an acrostic conversation)
“So cool that you know how to play the guitar.”
“Kind of you to say, but I’m the drummer, remember?”
“I know. That’s why we supposedly brought you into the band.”
“Let me get this straight., were you being sarcastic?”
“Lots of love, dude, but call us back when you can count to four.”
And The Band Played On (an acrostic poem)
Anthony didn’t know what to expect
Nights could be quiet, but this one?
Dude! Everyone was just wigging out.
The downtown nightclub, Tulane’s, burnt to the ground
He heard through the grapevine it was started by someone with a bong and a blowtorch
Everyone knows you don’t combine the two
But after the party moved on, there was a brawl at The Green Goddess.
Anthony had been on that call
Needed to bust a few drunken asses to get that mess sorted out
Detox was going to be busy till morning
People kept the crazy going even then
Leaving everyone on the night shift, including Anthony, very tired and cranky
Anthony thought once again about that parole job and wondered if he should bid on it
Yet he loved being a police officer
Every day he got to keep people safe, even when they behaved like animals
Deep down he knew he would miss it the minute he left
Over the radio another call came in, a robbery at a gas station
Never a dull moment, but there was always hope for a break later

Memory (an acrostic poem)
Music played softly in the background
Emily smiled at her husband, watching him conduct the band in his mind
Matt was brilliant with a baton in his hand. It was something he was born to do
Oscar had said as much during Emily and Matt’s wedding ceremony
Reaching out to touch Matt, Emily smiled at that reminiscence
Yet she accepted that that recollection was gone for him, like so many others
