Frail (an acrostic poem)

Finding courage to do the almost impossible mean he had to reach real deep.

Reach into depths he wasn’t sure he had.

And yet, here he was looking straight into the face of this next hurdle.

If he could just take a step forward here, his life would change forever for the good, but could he?

Looking at the parallel bars, he hoisted himself back up on them and tried to get his legs to walk.

Closed off and hurting, licking his wounds

As guards paraded around the bars like small moons orbiting him

Gideon smiled, wiping away the blood from his nose

Everyone thought he was doomed to die at sunrise

Didn’t understand he needed to be close, that he allowed himself to be captured…  Their screams started

Corruption pulsed within his veins energizing his desire to do wrong

Extracting money from the misery and oppression around him

Leaving him to live a life of luxury built upon the pain of others

Losing his soul bit by bit behind the bars of inhumanity
