So many wires going here and there

More than what is needed right now, but you want to be ready for the future

Oh I know it can get confusing, but that’s okay

Keep track of everything right up here in my big old brain

Except I forgot and now the smoke alarm is going off. Damn!

*a semi-fictitious tale. There was no smoke in my case. lol

Hydrant (an acrostic poem)

Heatwave sent summer shimmers flowing down the black pavement

Yet those crashing waves offered no respite from the oppression

Determined to find relief, she struggled with the large retaining nut

Realizing it was too tight, she called out for help

And yet no one came to the rescue because a firetruck came around the corner

Now she was scared that she was going to be in big trouble for even considering such a thing

That was assuaged when they pulled out an even bigger wrench and viola the water flowed

Model (an acrostic poem)

Making miniatures of real life was their thing

Organizing all the bits and pieces

Determining how to fit them all together

Enabling the construct to simulate the reality, but at a smaller level

Letting them travel through time as they watched the big bang unfold on their computer screen

Billion (an acrostic poem)

Big numbers eventually become small

If you zoom out far enough

Leaving the sense of wonder behind

Like when you’re little, 100 was so big, then a thousand

It boggles the mind at how small those numbers are now

Only by adding zeroes can the awe be added back in

Now what is a big number for you?

Cinema (an acrostic poem)

Composing art through words and images

Inspiring imagination and thought through deep story telling

Nobody is falling asleep in the dark, too much emotion and adrenaline

Everyone is mesmerized by what is happening on the big screen

Many will watch it again at home, but that collective theater experience is special

Allowing for a brief moment a community zeitgeist that can be transformative

Transport (an acrostic poem)

There were times he just wanted to get away

Race from wherever he was to someplace new

A place where no one knew him

No way that was going to happen now

So many things had happened over the past few years

People recognized him everywhere

Only if he could go back to being a nobody would he be truly happy

Reaching for his wine glass he raised a toast to himself

That’s what you get when you figure out the path to making it big

Lion (an acrostic poem)

Like being the king of my domain

I prowl back and forth, roaring to show how big and bad I am

Oh sure I may be scary and intimidating with all these sharp teeth, but

No one said I wouldn’t play with a ball of yarn if given a chance.

Panda (an acrostic poem)

Perhaps the big black and white guy didn’t know kung fu

Allison didn’t really care

Nothing made her heart happier than watching him play

Down among the well-chewed bamboo

All the scene needed was a tiger…  On second thought, maybe not.

Explode (an acrostic poem)

Everyone is waiting for the election results

Xantax has become the concession of choice as we watch

Purple states become more red or more blue

Leading to highs and lows for both sides

Only at the end of it all

Do we accept the results and figure out what is next or

Everything going to go big boom?
