Making food always made him feel both happy and sad.

Every morsel that left his kitchen was a love note to those who ordered it.

A loving response was an empty plate that came back, ready to be cleaned for a new missive.

Leaving food on the plate meant rejection and left him wondering what went wrong.

Chess (an acrostic poem)

Courting the queen was a dangerous move

Her ability to strike out was legendary, and she was so shifty

Every knight on both sides was hopping about to avoid her

So it was a surprise when she seemed to stumble into a trap by the opposing faction

So while they celebrated their minor victory, their king was brought low

Uh-Oh (an acrostic poem)

Unbeknownst to him, the fix was in for the card game

His opponents had stacked the deck and bought the dealer’s conscience

Once the hand was dealt, he didn’t even look and went all in.  They all smiled as they joined him.

He revealed his cards with his right hand and his gun with his left.  Both gave him the win

Sorry x2 (an acrostic poem)

So, I haven’t posted here for a couple of days

Of course, I hate when that happens

Really, I wanted to post, but I was burning the candle at both ends

Reaching a point where the words would not come

You can be assured I am sorry and will try to do better in the future.

And now a bonus poem/story…

She wanted to tell him she had been wrong in what she did

Or maybe not quite wrong, but maybe more mistaken

Reaching out, she cupped his cold face with her hands

Ready to finally apologize for what she had done

Yet she couldn’t though since he was already dead

Structure (an acrostic poem)

Steel girders littered the broken skyline

That the wind howled through

Reaching for her shotgun, Lily watched for the Others

Until she was locked away in her hidey-hole

Couldn’t be too careful ever since the Others had landed

The war for Earth had been devastating to both sides until the Truce

Under that, no new Other could come planetside

Relying on those already here to finish the job without destroying what was left of the planet

Except now no one knew who was winning anymore

Thought (an acrostic poem)

Think, therefore I am was his favorite idiom

He held onto it with both hands, never letting it go

Others gave up and allowed themselves to become fleshy robots

Under the guise that the need for money was above all

Given that option himself, he rejected to play along

He kept generating new and different mental creations to escape their drudgery

That was why he was gone when they finally came to imprison him for his ideas
