My goodness, I am drowning

Under my own body’s immune system response

Can’t breathe, my throat is on fire, my voice is silenced

Useless coughing causes my core to ache

Sneezing to loosen up the solid wall of …

Limit (an acrostic poem)

Looking for that little bit more

I push the pace past what was comfortable into the red zone

Making me breathe harder, faster

It rips a growl from my soul as hit that wall

Then I break through that ceiling.  On to that next level.

Extinct (an acrostic poem)

Every single one of them were gone

X marked the spot where the last one had died

That seemed such a minor thing at the time, and yet

It was the beginning of the end for the rest of us

Now I stand here to make another monument

Chiseling an X using my fingernails on the spot I stand

This is where the last of us will take their final breathe

Pain (an acrostic poem)

Punishing waves of agony crash along your nerves

And as they recede they leave riptides of aches behind

It makes it difficult to breathe, to think

Now you wonder if you can tough it out, or if this time it will break you

Breathe (an acrostic poem)

Bringing in the air slowly

Releasing it through his lips

Every cycle a glimpse into her scent

As he kissed her neck

That touch caused her to gasp

He trembled as he pulled back

Even the air seemed to shimmer
