Pulse (an acrostic poem)

Palpitations made him stop in his tracks

Until his heart began to beat normally

Listening, he could hear others fleeing to the north

So he continued fleeing eastward and hoped his pursuers would go in that direction

Except hope was extinguished when a slug ripped through his chest

Split (an acrostic poem)

So they planned to divide the bounty equally once they opened this chest

Pirates they may be, but they didn’t try to screw each other over, usually

Lust for gold was tempered by what the others would do if they found out

It surprised them all when they opened the chest, and nothing was there.

That’s when the guns and swords came out…

Flame (an acrostic poem)

Fire climbing high into the sky

Lighting her eyes in a way that was magical

And the image made his heart skip a beat

Maybe that’s why it didn’t hurt as much

Even as the knife plunged deep into his chest

Jab (an acrostic poem)

Jumping fists flying through the empty space

As breath explodes from her chest

Blow after blow on her imaginary opponent

Grand (an acrostic poem)

Greg knew how to make quite an entrance

Radiating the machismo that defined 70’s porn stars

Allowing the room to take in his exposed furry chest

Nobody ever forgot that sight, ever

Despite paying their therapist many many ….

Scent (an acrostic poem)

Smelling your perfume on your pillow lingering with me in bed

Covers draped over my chest like your arm was

Every memory of you comes flooding back

Now you’re gone, so I get up and give your pillow another spritz.

That way I can wake up to you again tomorrow.

Treasure (an acrostic poem)

The sand blew across the beach, stinging Ray’s face

Roaring waves ran themselves onto the shore

Everything screamed pirate to him

And to think the chest could be buried right below his feet

So many years ago his grandfather had hinted about this very place

Under the tropical sun, Ray was finally ready to prove the old man right

Reaching for his shovel he began to dig, looking for the possible riches

Eventually Grandpa laughed, picking Ray up and carrying him into the surf

Soured (an acrostic poem)

Sweet nothings flowed from his mouth

Obvious to her now, he didn’t mean a thing he said

Until that moment she thought they had a chance

Reality left a bitter taste in her mouth, and her stomach roiled

Exacerbating the situation further he kept staring at her friend’s chest

Displeased with the whole situation she left him stranded at the party
