Furiously looking for the punchline
Underneath the dross of reality
Nothing there could tease an honest chuckle out of his lips
Nothing warmed his shivering cold soul
Yet his comedy gave the world what he could never have
Furiously looking for the punchline
Underneath the dross of reality
Nothing there could tease an honest chuckle out of his lips
Nothing warmed his shivering cold soul
Yet his comedy gave the world what he could never have
It wasn’t who he was
Didn’t they know that?
Everyone should see it. He wasn’t that complicated
Now if he was, well maybe she wouldn’t have left him
That still hurt twenty some odd years later
If time does heal, he must be a man outside of time
That made him chuckle
You would think with a name like Gilgamesh he would know better

Sarah checked her watch for the fifth time
Tom was now officially late and in her doghouse
All she asked of him was to take an interest in the kids
Be on time
Insofar as she could tell
Leaving the kids with him was a crap shoot
If he didn’t show up soon she would call the police
That’s how pissed off she was
Yet she did chuckle when he showed up dressed as Santa
Frustration drips from my forehead
I stare blankly at words as they dance
Not understanding their motions
Aching to bleed out the answers
Listening to doubt chuckle
Sad that this is the way it all ends
