Research (an acrostic poem)

Reaching out to find out how more of her universe worked

Everything was subtly connected in fascinating ways

So when she ran into a dead end, she would happily start over

Except when that meant flushing years of work down the proverbial mental toilet

Reacting like anyone would, under those circumstances, she would become depressed

Cautiously she would begin to feel better and begin a new journey down a path she had yet to explore

Her energy renewed, ready to tackle another problem

Drain (an acrostic poem)

Didn’t have any time to recharge, so down went another bottle of caffeine and sugar

Really, sleep was in order, demanded even, but she ignored it

As she had too much to do and way too little time to get it all done

It would have made her cry, except after fifteen years of doing this, this was normal

Now if she had only believed her mother before she had become a mother herself…

Sand (an acrostic poem)

Silicon dioxide particles stuck to places on his body

All chaffing parts that should never be chaffed

Needing that shower to rinse them away and get relief

Deferring the problem to a clogged drain

Rag (an acrostic poem)

Reaching out and sucking as much of the mess as she could

Absorbing as much of the hate and condemnation before she overflowed

Getting saturated she ended up to wringing herself out into her emotional drain

Wrecked (an acrostic poem)

Wasted time dribbled away from Kenny

Reaching for his mostly empty beer, he finished the job

Everyone turned as he slammed it to the bar top

Cussing at the slow bartender, he demanded another

Know what? He found out the gutter was cold with snow runoff

Eventually, he managed to get himself into a sitting position

Depositing the remains of that beer into the gutter, he watched time follow it down the drain
