Plowing and sowing the world of sleep

It was hard work, but he was a farmer to his soul

Little furrows stretched to the horizon containing the roots of fertile dreams and scream-inducing nightmares

Lying there, waiting to be harvested

Once he was ready and picked them, Morbius would pay him handsomely for this crop

Wait till the slumbering humans were served these delectables!

Enter (an acrostic poem)

Every night Walter left cookies beside his bed

Never expecting them to be gone by morning, but a small part hoped really hard

They were his offering to the Sandman for dreams that never came

Eventually the Sandman had to get hungry and grant him his wish of a dream.  It was Walter’s only hope

Reaching for a snack as he got out of bed, he didn’t notice that the cookie he took reappeared as he walked away.

Nocturnal (an acrostic poem)

Nighttime was when he was awake and alive

Observing his domain as he prowled the streets

Citizens were happily in their beds now

They were dreaming dreams of a light-filled world

Under which people like him were just fragments of lore

Real-world boogeymen who cleaned up society’s messes

Now that suited him just fine

As he enjoyed the peace and quiet of owning the blacktop

Lifting another trashcan, he deposited the contents in the back of the truck before moving on

Vessel (an acrostic poem)

Untitled_Artwork
Image by my 14 year old daughter

Vehicle for fluids is raised for another toast

Enables waking dreams as you stumble being possessed

Sometimes you can host a multitude of different spirits simultaneously

Such as wine, beer, and hard liquors

Enough visitors that you reach your max occupancy limit, and you’re forced outside your body

Leaving you empty and full of yourself at the same time

Across (an acrostic poem)

Always there was a distance between them.

Could be living on different coasts, but it wasn’t.

Really it happened even when they were in the same room.

Oh, if they could just figure out a way to cross the gap

Such that all their dreams could come true.

So it was a tragedy when they settled for the next best thing.

Putter Clutter (a 100 word story)

Image: static01.nyt.com/images/2019/01/08/well/clutter/clutter-videoSixteenByNineJumbo1600-v2.jpg

He looked at the clutter around him.  Neglected, half-finished dreams littered the desk, table, and sections of the floor.  At one point each project had held so much life and promise, but now they were on life support, or worse yet zombified corpses.  He wondered what was the best approach going forward.  Maybe he should just put everything away and pull out pieces when he was ready to resurrect them, but that would mean confronting his failures, and he wasn’t emotionally prepared to do that just yet.  Besides, he had a brand new idea, and he knew it would work.

Mouse (an acrostic poem)

Maybe those dreams of grandeur are inflating your ego

Obviously weighing over a ton would be great

Under a pair of majestic antlers atop your head

Still, remember little one, there is a difference in what you are and your dreams

Even though it’s just a u and an o.

Sweet (an acrostic poem)

Saccharine dreams and ideals permeate her world

Winding her up into a sugar coma

Everything becomes a surreal new reality

Enabling dark pits and holes to grow in the enamel of her TV smile

That didn’t matter though, because the nothings told her so

Concert (an acrostic poem)

Conducting the music of her life

Olivia is quite the maestro

Never missing an up beat

Crescendoing past anything life threw at her

Everything is so legato under her masterful baton

Retarding to a stately pace when it was time to rest

The angels give her a standing ovation in her dreams
