Stage (an acrostic poem)

Someone once said all the world is one of these

That may be so, but not everyone is an actor

As I feel a lot of people decide to spend their time as props

Giving others something to manipulate but not adding much to the plot of history

Enabling them to dodge the question of to be or not to be because they were afraid to perform

Operate (an acrostic poem)

Old things had to make way for the new

Pulling back on the lever, the wrecking ball swung and smashed into the wall

Everywhere the ball hit, destruction reigned

Reducing the old structure into historic rubble

And she knew she was good at what she was doing

The crane danced to her choreography, each pirouette punctuated by the boom of connection

Enabling her to place the final period to that building’s story

Defeat (an acrostic poem)

Determined to go to bed sooner

Enabling a more refreshing start to the week

Fumbling through the stuff that had to be done

Everything taking so much more time to do

And some of it didn’t work out at all

Then the clock read 2 a.m. and he had to admit…

Model (an acrostic poem)

Making miniatures of real life was their thing

Organizing all the bits and pieces

Determining how to fit them all together

Enabling the construct to simulate the reality, but at a smaller level

Letting them travel through time as they watched the big bang unfold on their computer screen

Knife (an acrostic poem)

Knowing you would keep stabbing me in my back

Never helped in the past and yet

If I didn’t go through that personal hell I wouldn’t be where I am

Finally free of the pain of your sharp slices that cut me down

Enabling me to fly away on angel’s wings

Perfume (an acrostic poem)

Putting globules of memories into the air

Enabling the scent of the past to permeate the world

Rose and citrus mixed with grandma and the lake

Funny how smell is the sense that triggers all this

Urging us to remember

Molding the moment into something nostalgic

Except when it causes us to sneeze

Spell (an acrostic poem)

So do you believe in the magic that surrounds you?

Pushing the fantastical into the factual

Enabling imagination to define reality

Letting wonder bloom in the field of drab predictability

Let’s drink deep of this fever dream and cast our fancy into the world

Cape (an acrostic poem)

Cloaked in her beloved darkness, she shivered with excitement

As she peered over her city, watching those far below

Putting fear in the hearts of those trying to hide in the night

Enabling her to sense her prey

Reset (an acrostic poem)

Really need to define a new starting line

Enabling oneself to begin anew

So all the wanderings previously done are swept into the past

Excited to try again with the hope of fulfilling the quest this time

The learnings from the past are important, but sometimes you need a new genesis

Document (an acrostic poem)

Didn’t read the fine print of the contract

Of course that’s how a lot of these stories start

Catch 22’s galore in the legalese that no one can decipher

Unless you are a lawyer, and even then you have to be speak a dialect of Parseltongue

Making the rest of the tale about maneuvering out of the inevitable

Enabling our hero to have the last laugh

Now only if that worked in real life

Then I would be so done with these student loans
