She wanted to bare her essence, her soul

Embracing her truth before setting it free into the world

Cauterizing the cuts those words caused by her clutching them so desperately tight

Releasing them would allow so much healing to enter

Except she just couldn’t do it.  She screamed as she hugged them tighter

The idea of giving up her truth and being naked, of needing to find a new truth

She would be an open window, an empty container, a person without value, a woman without …

Peel (an acrostic poem)

Prying back her man’s rough outer layer

Exposed the fact that he was surprisingly human

Except she didn’t want to believe that

Lifting his freshly stilled heart out of the way, she continued to look for essence of monster

Spice (an acrostic poem)

 

She turned up the heat in the chili, drop by evil-looking drop of ghost pepper essence

Perspiration beaded along his forehead and dribbled into his eyes at first bite

It gave his body an illusion of cooling, but the heat just kept climbing

Couldn’t believe there was a time before the all-consuming fiery pain

Eventually, his mouth recovered, but he knew round two was coming

Distilling the world into its essence

Rebranding it as makebelieve

It could be labeled the fundamentals of insanity

Vivian loved it when she played with the alchemy

Eventually, her internal philosopher’s stone might create gold
