Mast (an acrostic poem)

Majestic wooden boats used to sail the seven seas in search of adventure and money

And of those two, money was the more important

So when the age of steam dawned on technology’s horizon, those great ships could see their time sunsetting

That’s when the magic died and shipping became not an adventure, but a commodity, a rich one.

Hollow (an acrostic poem)

He was sick of feeling empty inside

Only self-pity seemed to fill the void, and he knew that wasn’t healthy

Looking out over the storm-tossed ocean waves, he wondered what to do

Love felt so far away, somewhere out there past the emotional gray horizon

Of course, even if he got out there it might not help

Walking away from the water, he tried to convince himself that being full wouldn’t feel all that great

Salty (an acrostic poem)

Seasoning was the key to all great cooking

And he wanted to be known as a Master Chef

Leaving the galley kitchen, he went on deck and breathed in the sea air

That’s when one of the junior officers made a snide remark about breakfast

Yelling obscenities back was probably not a good idea, he realized, as he washed all the dishes

Tale (an acrostic poem)

Image: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0f/Campfire_Pinecone.png

Telling a yarn or two sitting around the flickering campfire made Tom happy

As the smoke rose, his words wove an ethereal medium that morphed into great battles and lover’s trysts

Leaving those that heard, speechless, filled with awe, and desperate to experience more

Eventually, the smoke faded away, and with it, Tom.

Never was he farther away physically from her

Every day he felt that emptiness when he woke up

And no matter how many times he got to call her, it was never enough

Reaching his decision, he booked his flight.  Money is great, but being there was priceless

Moss (an acrostic poem)

Maybe the rolling stone wasn’t that great after all

Only by finding a quiet, still place can you put down some roots

Soul-nourishing peace grounding away the pent-up anxious energy

Soaking in patience waiting for the right stone to come

Bad Day (an acrostic poem)

Bringing all she had to the table

Anne felt like it just wasn’t enough

Doomed to fail, and fail horribly

Didn’t miss the mark by much

And everything went catastrophically wrong

Yet she realized tomorrow was another chance to do something great

Mouse (an acrostic poem)

Maybe those dreams of grandeur are inflating your ego

Obviously weighing over a ton would be great

Under a pair of majestic antlers atop your head

Still, remember little one, there is a difference in what you are and your dreams

Even though it’s just a u and an o.
