Cold (an acrostic poem)

Chilled to her bones, she tried to finish her typing, listening to the percussive clatter of the keys

Only the chattering wasn’t just the keyboard, but her teeth beat a duet with her fingers

Leaving her to wonder if the furnace was ever going to kick in

Didn’t remember she had placed a hold on it so no heat came for a long time

Coal (an acrostic poem)

Chucking the little black nuggets onto the embers of the fire and soon they burst into flame

Outputting more heat to warm up the chilly cabin

And to think people called him a dinosaur when he burnt his favorite fuel

Look, he was just freeing his spiritual ancestors’ souls in exchange for warmth

Crayon (an acrostic poem)

Crayola’s yellow box made his eyes go wide.

Realizing all one hundred twenty colors inside were his to work with.

And that thought had him wondering what he should color first.

Yukon forests?  Dragons breathing fire on a horde of gold? Something from the Matrix?

Of course, he could let his imagination run wild and do something totally out of the box.

Next moment he was using a heat gun to make a three-dimensional sunset!

Coffee (an acrostic poem)

Cup of her liquid wakeup was held close to her nose

Olfactory sensors lit up her brain with anticipation

Followed with her stomach preparing for the scalding acidic onslaught

Fluid of the darkest black splashed and sloshed along her tongue

Everything in her mouth screamed as the heat seared her taste buds

Except she considered that her wakeup alarm symphony.  The day could now begin.

Punish (an acrostic poem)

Image: microstockman.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Rock-Face-Texture-1.jpg

Pushing her body to breaking never helped anyone

Unless you were talking about her guilt

Now she was here and wondered if this time she had gone too far

It seemed to make sense in the heat of the moment

So now hanging on this rockface fifty feet up and her strength giving out, she wondered

How did eating a single extra Oreo do this to her?

Crispy (an acrostic poem)

Crunching on this piece of Nashville hot fried chicken

Relishing in the heat and texture dancing in my mouth

It is a spiritual experience to be sure

So much noise and so much spice

Perhaps I should have gotten that milkshake after all

Yeppers, as my mouth begins to erupt, yes, I should have

Spice (an acrostic poem)

She turned up the heat in the chili, drop by evil-looking drop of ghost pepper essence

Perspiration beaded along his forehead and dribbled into his eyes at first bite

It gave his body an illusion of cooling, but the heat just kept climbing

Couldn’t believe there was a time before the all-consuming fiery pain

Eventually, his mouth recovered, but he knew round two was coming

Triangle (an acrostic poem)

There were three sides to this story

Reaching across time and space

I took control of the situation

As I fought various fantastical creatures

Navigating places of extreme cold and heat

Gaining great weapons and armors while cooking yummy food

Leading me to the ultimate battle of good and evil

Eventually, the triforce will be mine!
