Duet (an acrostic poem)

Double her melody, but a third higher they said

Under normal circumstances that would have been a cakewalk

Except she found out the person she was singing with was Mariah Carey

That meant either she needed to find another octave in range or have a car hit her so she could get out of it

Creature (an acrostic poem)

Capricious thoughts scatter across his mental landscape

Reason and emotion decorate his headspace with the creative and the banal

Everything coalescing into a morass of possibilities and probabilities

A prime candidate for the existence of a higher purpose

That life is not just reacting to environmental stimuli and hormones

Unless it concerned her smirk

Reducing everything to its most primal place

Especially as she purred, kneading him, keeping him awake

Contrast (an acrostic poem)

Cold, cold logic sets fire to my imagination

Oblivious to the pain, I draw out tears of joy

Nothing can stop me but myself

That’s what makes creating so hard.  It’s destroying simple things

Reaching the basic elements and then building complex structures on them

Always digging deeper and climbing higher

Searching for the thing that is always with you

That is the war of the abstract and realism that defines me

Ladder (an acrostic poem)

Leaving the ground behind one step at a time

As I climb higher and higher into the sky

Don’t look down though

Don’t ever look down.  That my knees will knock

Eventually, I stop and wonder how high I have gone

Realizing I was only three rungs up.
