Mast (an acrostic poem)

Majestic wooden boats used to sail the seven seas in search of adventure and money

And of those two, money was the more important

So when the age of steam dawned on technology’s horizon, those great ships could see their time sunsetting

That’s when the magic died and shipping became not an adventure, but a commodity, a rich one.

Pillow (an acrostic poem)

Plowing and sowing the world of sleep

It was hard work, but he was a farmer to his soul

Little furrows stretched to the horizon containing the roots of fertile dreams and scream-inducing nightmares

Lying there, waiting to be harvested

Once he was ready and picked them, Morbius would pay him handsomely for this crop

Wait till the slumbering humans were served these delectables!

Hollow (an acrostic poem)

He was sick of feeling empty inside

Only self-pity seemed to fill the void, and he knew that wasn’t healthy

Looking out over the storm-tossed ocean waves, he wondered what to do

Love felt so far away, somewhere out there past the emotional gray horizon

Of course, even if he got out there it might not help

Walking away from the water, he tried to convince himself that being full wouldn’t feel all that great

Radiate (an acrostic poem)

Image: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5c/Sun-in-the-sky.jpg

Revealing light streams over the landscape

Abstract shapes resolve into the finite

Dictating reality to manifest yet again

It warmed her heart every time it happened

As the sun slowly eased itself above the threshold of the horizon

The green flash announcing its next jaunt across the sky

Exciting her eyes with the potential of a new chance, a new day

Swell (an acrostic poem)

Image: i.ytimg.com/vi/btmjDyff6E8/maxresdefault.jpg

Starlight-sparkles dance on the whitecapped waves

Waltzing their way to a sandy landing

Every new pulse of water brings up another promenade

Letting the dance go on and on throughout the night

Leaving the scene when the sun peaks over the horizon

The Lesson (an 100 word story)

Under a gloomy gray sky, she looked at the shattered pieces of her life strewn at her bleeding feet.  She stood there dumbfounded.  Everything was gone in mere moments!  She cried and almost just gave up, but…

Time kept moving.

Tears dried.

The sun crept out from behind the clouds.

She grabbed a broom and began to clean up the mess that had been her life and threw it away.  She kept a couple of small pieces to remind herself of the before times.  She then made a cup of tea and looked at the horizon.

The phoenix watched and learned.

West (an acrostic poem)

Watching the sun make its escape as it sinks beneath the horizon

Everything becomes more magical in that twilight moment

Snippets and whispers of other realms peek from beyond the veil

That opportunity sets as darkness brings down the curtain

Rail (an acrostic poem)

Image: snopes.com/tachyon/2017/12/train_tracks_fb.jpg

Reaching from one horizon to the other

A pair of dull gray arms hug the hard-compacted earth underneath

Iron spikes cement the bond of their timeless relationship

Lasting valentine to the age of steam

Anchor (an acrostic poem)

Adrift in a sea of high emotions

No sunrise on the horizon to be found

Caution blew away with the high winds hours ago

Hearing the waves pounding on the rocks

Only thing he could safely do was ground himself against the current

Releasing the weight, he felt it plunge deep and hold, but for how long
