Reaching for the door he stumbled and fell

Under his prone body, the earth danced and shook

Maybe it was the rum shots of rum, but he then saw a painting fall

Being of not-so-sound mind, he laughed at the irony

Liquid courage surged through his veins as he managed to stand again

Except that’s when the house fell around him, so he joined it and cried.

Rum (an acrostic poem)

Reaching for the bottle and pouring out a healthy shot

Under the full moon on a tropical beach

Maybe this summons the spirit of a legendary pirate, or at least a wannabe one who can dance

Demo (an acrostic conversation)

Don’t you want to test it first?”

Everybody does that.  Where’s the excitement then?”

Maybe in the fact you know the thing works?”

Or maybe we wait till the crowd is here and see if it explodes!”

Cold (an acrostic poem)

Chill hung in the air and in her heart as she observed the frozen landscape.

Only fools and the desperate would be out in this mess.

Leaving her to wonder which one she was.  Maybe she was both.

Dead bodies weren’t going to hide themselves, though, so out into the tundra she skied.

Hmmm (an acrostic poem)

He looked at the puzzle in front of him and pondered

Maybe if he twisted his mind just so?  No that didn’t work.

Maybe if he prodded the problem over there?  Nope, that wasn’t the key

Maybe he should just leave everything alone, but then what would she say when she was ignored?

Bedlam (an acrostic poem)

Bonkers, it’s absolutely bonkers I say.”

Everything is in turmoil?”

Double turmoil, with a cherry on top and a fireball whiskey chaser!”

Let’s calm down for a moment.  What happened?”

All I can say is it involves a fish, a poleaxe, and two large bottles of ammonia.”

Maybe it’s best if I don’t know.  I don’t want to go to jail!”

Early (an acrostic poem)

Image: workforcehub.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/employee-time-clock-1.jpg

Every day he tried to get to work on time, but he was always late

And every day his boss would threaten to fire him before letting him get to work

Risking his employment might not have been the smartest thing in the world, but he had problems

Look, he wasn’t a morning person, but he would work till well past midnight

You know what, maybe he wasn’t late, but since he worked deep into the night, maybe he was really…

Mush (an acrostic poem)

Maybe it was too late in the day to do such things, but she tried to solve his riddle

Under the glow of a full moon, she contemplated what he had said and how he had said it

So many possibilities rattled around her cranium, demanding she fit the moving pieces together

Her head started to pound as she felt the pieces fly away, her ability to comprehend slowly devolving to…

Prime (an acrostic poem)

Putting all her chips on lucky thirteen.

Roulette rewarded the three to five people who carried luck in their back pocket.

It made one wonder if they were a part of that club.

Maybe it was too much to count on since her skirt didn’t even have a front pocket, much less two.

Eventually, the ball landed on eleven, ending her night.  Time to hit the buffet and eat some of that beef.

Bistro (an acrostic poem)

Being as hungry as he was, he sat with the menu pondering his options.

It was always tempting to just say, “I’ll have one of everything.”

Silly as that thought was…

Though maybe today was the day to do it.

Really, he had the funds for a once-in-a-lifetime splurge, and this was the right place.

Ordering it all, he made friends sharing all the tapas.
