Tempo (an acrostic poem)

The faster he beat the air, the more chaotic they seemed to play.

Everyone following their own beat, toes tapping in irregular rhythms.

Melody and harmony intertwined in ways not intended by any involved in its creation.

Pushing those in the audience to cringe and squirm in their seats.

Obviously, the following ovation was intense.  The musicians were kids after all.

Duet (an acrostic poem)

Double her melody, but a third higher they said

Under normal circumstances that would have been a cakewalk

Except she found out the person she was singing with was Mariah Carey

That meant either she needed to find another octave in range or have a car hit her so she could get out of it

Soup (an acrostic poem)

Slurping the yummy broth made her taste buds dance

Oregano and tomato played the bass notes

Under the delightful melody of lemon zest high notes

Pasta applying the percussion on her tongue

Dance (an acrostic poem)

Deep bass notes punctuated the melody

Announcing it was time to get up

Nascent instincts awaken and bodies begins to move

Creating a kinetic ephemeral work of art

Even though some of the pieces need some tweaking

Beats (an acrostic poem)

Bouncing along to the rock-hard bass sculpture

Enjoying the poetry of the melody

And reveling in the colorful painting of the harmony

That’s wrapped in a ballet for your ears

So much artistic goodness for your soul

Soul (an acrostic poem)

Sounds escaped the sax that built a castle of blue ice

Over that the horns mourned the loss of innocence

Until the drums came in, then picked up the tempo

Letting everything melt into an ecstasy of melody

Timeless (an acrostic poem)

Tossing his fedora onto the coatrack, Martin sat at the piano

In no time the keys began to sing what was in his heart

Melodies rose and fell on the emotional tide

Enveloping Martin in memories of another time and place

Listening to those faint echoes of her laugh in the harmonies

Envisioning her smile as she joined him on the violin

Softly he finished his musical poem and smiled at her picture on the piano

She would always be a part of his soul
