Million (an acrostic poem)

Making money used to be her main focus

If she didn’t add something to her banking account, she felt it was wasting her time

Leaving her weighing her friendships against the gold she was not making

Losing out on experiences due to hoarding time to use to make her stash dragonesque in scope

It took someone asking her what she was going to do when she finally had seven figures saved

Oh, she could let loose and buy some things, go on a dream vacation, or have an awesome party

Nothing would buy the memories and experiences she missed, that was her true accounting

Focusing on her reflection in the mirror

Rachel wondered how she could go on

After everything she’d been through, there was so little left

Glass was far more robust than her current mental state

It felt like at any moment she would shatter into a million pieces

Leaving emotional shards across the floor

Except that’s when her son came by and gave her a hug, pulling her back together.

Given how much it meant to her, this failure left her soul feeling heavy

Reason told her this time wasn’t any different then the million times before

And she knew she should let go of that emotional weight

Vanity wouldn’t let that happen, though

It kept her rooted firmly on the ground

That pressure to beat Sisyphus by pushing up her metaphorical boulder

Yielded the same result.  She never left her personal black hole

Wrestling with all the words

Recording a random assemblage of them

It is worse than a million monkeys reproducing Shakespeare

That’s when most people are ready to give up

Except you can’t.  That story needs to be told, so you…

Dragon (an acrostic poem)

Darwin hefted his heavy crossbow and took aim

Randy was distracting the wyrm with his stupid antics

Allowing Darwin a chance to strike the killing blow

Got to hit it through the eye and into the brainpan

One in a million shot, even at the best of times, but Darwin knew he was better than that

Never counted on the beast blinking.  Darwin never felt the flames

Wouldn’t believe this day has come

And now you cross the stage decked out in gown and mortarboard

Looking like a million dollars

Knowing you need to make that to pay off the loans

Being the center of the party meant Jess set the heartbeat as she sipped her champaigne

Until hers skipped a beat as Chad entered the room

Breaking down the man with her million dollar smile

Backing him into a far wall

Licking her lips

Enticing him with her eyes

Screaming his name when the ball hit midnight
