Couldn’t start her morning without the stuff

Everyday was a bowl or two of sugary goodness

Really it was also a bowl for lunch, and maybe one for a late night snack

Eventually she realized she was an addict

And tried to quit cold turkey, but that didn’t end well

Locked up after freebasing all the Captain Crunch at Walmart

Fire (an acrostic poem)

Flames soared up into the night sky, infusing the area with smoke

It lit up the other campers’ eyes and smiles as they witnessed

Reaching for her guitar, Mary began a new song of praise

Everyone was soon singing along as they shared all shared a spiritual spark

Chill (an acrostic poem)

Cold hands touched his back

He couldn’t help himself.  He flinched.

It broke the moment, and after an awkward pause she left

Leaving him alone with only half his plans for the night

Luckily Netflix wasn’t as judgey

Rest (an acrostic poem)

Relaxing with her beer, she smiled at her day

Everything had gone wrong with the day

Still, her family was healthy, and they all had food in their tummies

That, and a good night’s sleep, was all they needed to make tomorrow better

Lights (an acrostic poem)

Looking for the switch, Maribelle stumbled in the dark

It didn’t get any better when she managed to find it

Giving it a flick did nothing to illuminate the situation

Her worst fears were confirmed, the power was out

That meant she had to fend for herself on this dark night

So when she struck her head on the low hanging beam she was blinded by the …

Stars (an acrostic poem)

So many distant suns twinkling as they watch from above

They escort the night across the sky

Arriving at the horizon to be relieved of their duty

Resting till called upon as their little sister fades to black

Silent sentries stoic in their duty

Code (an acrostic poem)

Clicking like mad on her keyboard

Ordering her computer to bend to her will

Determined to watch it compile and run successfully

Errors proliferated like rabbits and she decided it was going to be a long night
