Zigzag (an acrostic poem)

Zebras scattered among the savanna grass

It made for a dizzying pattern for the approaching lioness

Giving her pause as to which way to attack

Zooming through the waving foliage, she struck out

And only managed to slap at a tail as what it was attached to scrambled away

Giving chase, her pride managed to finally take one down as the rest of the dazzle escaped

Nick (an acrostic poem)

Notching her knife with a file, Katy smiled
It would make sure the slice would catch right there
Causing her to pause in her butchery
Knowing she wanted to savor Jim’s demise and not make it go by too quickly

Starlight (an acrostic poem)

Stars send speeding photons flying through the nothingness

To land blissfully on my eyes as I look heavenward

Awestruck at the age of the light that graced me

Realizing a small chunk of ancient history

Looking at a place that might not exist anymore

It causes me to pause, wondering what I am casting into the void around me

Giving life to something that will outlast my stay in this universe

Hoping that someone will gaze upon that something and be inspired

To create their own light and cast it into the unknown

Tiny (an acrostic poem)

The enormity of the situation was not lost on Joy.

It made everyone around her pause and take notice of how bad it was getting

Nothing in her life had prepared her for what was to come

Yet the feel of her baby daughter’s hand wrapped around her finger gave her hope.

Thunder (an acrostic poem)

The storm crashed through the valley

Heaving tree branches and debris to-and-fro

Until there seemed to a charged pause

Negative particles madly dash from sky to ground

Determined to find a place to rest

Except that outbreak from the heavens causes heated air to flee the scene

Resulting in colder air to rush in and clap at the drama of it all

Chill (an acrostic poem)

Cold hands touched his back

He couldn’t help himself.  He flinched.

It broke the moment, and after an awkward pause she left

Leaving him alone with only half his plans for the night

Luckily Netflix wasn’t as judgey

Grateful (an acrostic poem)

Giving thanks is an everyday event

Really it should be moment to moment

At least we set a day aside to remind us to do so

Tempering the hectic pace of life

Enabling friends and family a moment to pause

For every day is truly a gift, each sunrise a blessing

Until that sun doesn’t rise for you anymore

Long may you live and be …

Pause (an acrostic poem)

Perhaps it was time to just quit

Amber decided that didn’t feel right

Unless she really wanted to give up, and that wasn’t her

So she put the saxophone away and folded up her music stand

Eleven minutes of practice still counted for something.  There was always tomorrow
