Submerged below tons of dirt and rock

Under the people scurrying like insects in metallic carcasses

Believers in mass transit meditated as their bodies gently swayed

Weaving their way through a complex anthill structure

And then regurgitated back up to the surface like zombies risen from the dead

Yearning for homes instead of brains

Lava (an acrostic poem)

Liquid rock sprinkles fell down from above

And where it landed, flames erupted

Voluminous black smoke billowed skyward

Ash rained for miles, drenching the earth in foulness

Crash (an acrostic poem)

Clutter of electronics covered his desk like high tech lichen on a wooden rock

Reality bending miracles of the past now mere pieces and memories

And he kept contributing new relics to the collection

Swearing, he flicked the switch again, but

His computer still wasn’t booting, just more of the blue plague infecting his vision

Block (an acrostic poem)

Being on social media can be so draining

Left and right posts about hot takes and hot button issues

Or the unwanted advances of strangers into personal headspaces

Can make you want to flee and hide under an analog rock

Know that there is a button that might help put a stop to that

Gap (an acrostic poem)

Getting through the tight squeeze called life was always a challenge

As her whole existence had been between a rock and a hard place

Perhaps that’s why she was able to surprise them when she cracked her world and began to fly

Beats (an acrostic poem)

Bouncing along to the rock-hard bass sculpture

Enjoying the poetry of the melody

And reveling in the colorful painting of the harmony

That’s wrapped in a ballet for your ears

So much artistic goodness for your soul

Tube (an acrostic poem)

The descent into the underground left Tyler feeling uneasy

Until now the journey had been theoretical, a nightmare that could happen

But now Tyler stood while overhead there was millions of pounds of dirt and rock

Everything would be all right.  Just stay calm. But then the lights went out…

Journey (an acrostic poem)

Jamming on her brakes, Salama looked to her left where she saw whitewater far below

Oddly the sound reminded her of the ocean, but more chaotic, capturing the wildness it passed through

Under normal circumstances, she would want to continue the climb to the top

Reality the water called to her spirit so she began to descend

Navigating downward on tree roots and small rock outcrops she got closer to her goal

Eventually dipping her toes into that white foam and the crisp water underneath.

Yet that water was too cold to do more, so she climbed back up with a satisfied grin
