Crunchy salty goodness played footsies with his tongue

Relishing in the dulcet bass tones with each bite

It made getting his fingers greasy so worth it

Still he wiped his hands on his pants before grabbing his Coke

Putting slick hands on a wet can could mean instead of drinking it he would be wearing it

Salty (an acrostic poem)

Seasoning was the key to all great cooking

And he wanted to be known as a Master Chef

Leaving the galley kitchen, he went on deck and breathed in the sea air

That’s when one of the junior officers made a snide remark about breakfast

Yelling obscenities back was probably not a good idea, he realized, as he washed all the dishes

Salty (an acrostic poem)

Swearing up a blue streak was her pressure relief mechanism

And she needed all the relief she could get tonight

Little did she know her ex was going to be there with his super-model girlfriend

That’s when she knew she had to do something to assert dominance

Yet loosening the tops to the seasoning shakers were probably not the route to go

Chef (an acrostic poem)

Cuisine so fine that that it demanded to be taken out for a dinner date

He showered her with flavors that were tart, sweet, salty, and spicy

Everything balanced to a perfection, a true masterpiece of culinary art

Food may be temporally empheneral, but the memories of that meal will be eternal

Salty (an acrostic poem)

Spewing swearwords at his partner

A lively discussion deteriorated into a verbal brawl

Leaving their relationship listless on the brackish waters of their tears

To think how fast something so spicy had lost all flavor

Yet it now left a sour taste in his mouth

Weep (an acrostic poem)

Wet drops of salty water raced down her weathered face

Ending in a pitter pater at her feet

Every drop carried a little bit of her anguish

Purging her soul of its pain

Ramen (Flash Fiction)

The ramen slowly softened in the bubbling water while Mandy watched.  She knew she should eat, but she wasn’t hungry.

“Hey Mandy, watcha doing?”

Mandy smiled a sad smile and shook her head.  “Making some food.”

Kristofer came over and joined her staring at the dancing noodles.  “Can I have some?”

“You can have all of it.  I was just thinking I didn’t want it anymore.”

Kristofer looked at her face, but Mandy kept her vision focused on the noodles. “Really, you can take it.”  She ripped open the flavor packet and dropped its contents into the pot, staining the water a turmeric yellow.  The promise of salty goodness bloomed in the air, and Mandy gave herself a little hug.

Kristofer grabbed a bowl and came back to the pot.  “Do you think it’s done?”

Mandy stirred the soup, watching how the noodles tried to entangle themselves around the spoon, but Mandy was too fast for them.  She was able to navigate those waters without any attachment.  “Yep.  It’s done.”  She picked the pot up by its handle and expertly poured the steaming liquid into the proffered bowl.  “Enjoy.”

Kristofer took the bowl and was soon slurping the contents.  “Are you sure you don’t want some?” he asked while chewing.

Mandy finally looked him in the eyes, allowing her to ignore his mouth and her stomach.  “Nope.  I’ll be fine.  It’s all good.”

Sweat (an acrostic poem)

Softly the salty water plopped on the stone dry earth

While her pulse pounded in her own ears

Each step quickly followed by another

As she ran from the person she once was

Towards the person she wanted to be
