Poet (an acrostic poem)

Image: mandyevebarnett.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/unleashed-imagination.jpg

Placing emotions on a page, then folding them into intricate origami dioramas of life

Or pluck stars from the sky and plant them under mountains to grow gemstone geodes

Even distill humanity, boil off the dross, and serve up a potent shot of pure intoxication and misery

Then crumple up the whole thing, delete the file, and try again since the craft was not perfected

Buggy (an acrostic poem)

Image: blog.themotorbookstore.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/dune-buggy-at-sand-dunes.jpg

Bounding the dunes without a care in the world

Under the glittering stars high above

Giving a middle finger to the rest of the jealous, stressful world

Going to do this forever and nothing was going to stop me

Yet that’s when the car’s computer crashed and left me stranded on the God-forsaken beach all alone

Starlight (an acrostic poem)

Image: p0.piqsels.com/preview/6/405/273/117kobnrde5ip3kjqhaqbd6l3a.jpg

Stars send speeding photons flying through the nothingness

To land blissfully on my eyes as I look heavenward

Awestruck at the age of the light that graced me

Realizing a small chunk of ancient history

Looking at a place that might not exist anymore

It causes me to pause, wondering what I am casting into the void around me

Giving life to something that will outlast my stay in this universe

Hoping that someone will gaze upon that something and be inspired

To create their own light and cast it into the unknown

Wonder (an acrostic poem)

What she loved to do was count the stars in the night sky

Only she knew she could never get an accurate number

Not once did she let it stop her from what she perceived was her duty

Determined to be a witness to every star’s existence in its moment of time

Everything comes to an end, and one day she might be the only one to notice

Remembering the dot of light for what it might have been before it wasn’t there anymore

Shine (an acrostic poem)

Stars do their ballet dance

High above her head

It gives her goosebumps

Nighttime performances like this were awe inspiring

Especially as some performers blazed across the stage

Grand (an acrostic poem)

Greg knew how to make quite an entrance

Radiating the machismo that defined 70’s porn stars

Allowing the room to take in his exposed furry chest

Nobody ever forgot that sight, ever

Despite paying their therapist many many ….

Dome (an acrostic poem)

Dim stars twinkled from far overhead

Overwhelming ancient history is written in those heavens

Mary contemplated how her short existence fit in all of that

Eventually, she embraced her cousins since they were all made of the dust of creation

Stars (an acrostic poem)

So many distant suns twinkling as they watch from above

They escort the night across the sky

Arriving at the horizon to be relieved of their duty

Resting till called upon as their little sister fades to black

Silent sentries stoic in their duty

Space Travel (an acrostic poem)

Stars stare without blinking

Putting me ill at ease as I float here

And wonder if I will ever feel solid ground beneath my feet again

Can’t believe those brilliant blue skies are so long gone

Everything out there is so black

To be an interstellar adventurer

Really should be so much more exciting

And it was two years ago, but now?

Viewing the infinite from inside my craft

Everything just seems so small and too large at the same time

Leaving me to wonder why I booked this flight
