“Do you prefer blinds or shades?”

“Really it’s a toss-up, though my cats prefer blinds”

“Ah, I see.  Is it because they love to peer through the slats?”

“People like to think that.  No, it’s because they like to break off the ends”

“Entropy and gravity.  The study of feline physicists everywhere.”

Sphere (an acrostic poem)

Suns spun in their gravitational dance around the galaxy

Planets pulled around and around each of those hot balls of nuclear fire

How amazing it was that the cosmic dance continued since time eternal

Every clear night she looked up at the dancers above

Reveling in the opportunity to study the performance

Embracing the challenge of cyphering out the music

She loved astrophysics

Cram (an acrostic poem)

Can’t decide if I can fit it all in

Ramming in multiple items, trying to make them fit

And realizing that it might be a lost cause

Means my students might not enjoy this test.  Hope they study well and don’t…

Student of Battle

The battle was about to commence.  Marcus sharpened his weapon in preparation for the conflict to come.  He had prepared for many days now, purging his body of superfluous thoughts.  Marcus studied what would be required from him, going over the motions again and again, trying to build the memories needed to not only survive, but to thrive.  He had to give up so much to be here for this moment.  The future, his future depended on what was going to happen in just a few more hours.  Marcus sharpened his weapon again.  He knew that was just the habit of nervously waiting, but it calmed him to hear the sound of scraping metal.  He cautiously touched the tip and felt like he could draw blood so easily.  Finally he opened the door and entered the room.  Let the physics test commence.
