Majestic wooden boats used to sail the seven seas in search of adventure and money

And of those two, money was the more important

So when the age of steam dawned on technology’s horizon, those great ships could see their time sunsetting

That’s when the magic died and shipping became not an adventure, but a commodity, a rich one.

Oath (an acrostic poem)

Once the ritual words were uttered

And the two men spat in their palms and shook hands

Then the pact was sealed as witnessed by those around

How such a silly contrivance made something binding made her head spin

Prime (an acrostic poem)

Putting all her chips on lucky thirteen.

Roulette rewarded the three to five people who carried luck in their back pocket.

It made one wonder if they were a part of that club.

Maybe it was too much to count on since her skirt didn’t even have a front pocket, much less two.

Eventually, the ball landed on eleven, ending her night.  Time to hit the buffet and eat some of that beef.

Vector (an acrostic poem)

Velocity was too high and from the wrong direction for the two spacecraft to dock.

Even with all the acceleration he had at his fingertips, the joining would not be successful.

Considering the impulse they were about to experience, he shouted, “Brace yourselves!”

The impact caused them to increase angular momentum, spinning them and the forces pinned them hard against their seats.

Observing their attempted destination spin away into the void, he fired the thrusters to arrest the erratic rotation.

Rockets fired and the spacecraft slowed in the gravitational field it floated in.

Tale (an acrostic poem)

Image: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0f/Campfire_Pinecone.png

Telling a yarn or two sitting around the flickering campfire made Tom happy

As the smoke rose, his words wove an ethereal medium that morphed into great battles and lover’s trysts

Leaving those that heard, speechless, filled with awe, and desperate to experience more

Eventually, the smoke faded away, and with it, Tom.

Slice (an acrostic poem)

She held the knife in two hands like a samurai sword.

Looking at the watermelon, her sworn enemy, she bowed her head.

It was going to be a battle to the death, but she didn’t feel like dying tonight!

Cutting deftly, the watermelon never had a chance and soon it was bleeding chunks on her counter.

Extremely happy with herself, she popped a piece in her mouth and spit out the seeds.

Pair (an acrostic poem)

Putting two together was the desired goal of most people

And in some things, she would agree with them.

It didn’t apply to her socks. People always asked if her dryer ate one of them

Reality was she only bought singles since she usually got dressed in the dark.

Heal (an acrostic poem)

His heart was shattered into shards that stabbed his soul and made it bleed

Every day he tried to put one or two more pieces back together as best he could

And some days his heart broke more than he fixed it, yet overall

Living slowly got better, forever different, but better

Dice (an acrostic poem)

Determined to let chance decide not only my fate but everyone’s

I rolled the five of them, hoping for the best, but needing a perfect result

Couldn’t look as they spun to a stop

Everyone gasped.  I peeked at the result before screaming triumphantly.  The dragon was dead!

Quarter (an acrostic conversation)

Questioning what I do will cost you more.”

Uh, why do you say that?”

As you waste my time asking me, the expert you hired, stupid questions, my price goes up.”

Reasonable, but that isn’t a good working relationship.”

This isn’t a coworker situation. We have an employer-employee situation.”

Except that always ends in a toxic work environment. We need to have a de-escalation training.”

Really? You think that? I quit! You can take your two bits and shove them!”

Note: two bits = 1 quarter
