Caged (an acrostic poem)

Closed off and hurting, licking his wounds

As guards paraded around the bars like small moons orbiting him

Gideon smiled, wiping away the blood from his nose

Everyone thought he was doomed to die at sunrise

Didn’t understand he needed to be close, that he allowed himself to be captured…  Their screams started

Beep (an acrostic poem)

Being in IT when every computer on campus was making noises

Especially as they rebooted over and over again was not going to be good

Ernie knew he was doomed for a long long long day

Perhaps this was not the week to give up swearing, but he wanted to yell something.  “Oh …”

Dread (an acrostic poem)

Doomed to keep repeating her mistakes like some deranged version of Groundhog Day

Rachel kept trying to break the cycle

Except she never found a way

And so here she was again

Doomed to keep repeating her mistakes like some deranged version of Groundhog Day

Bad Day (an acrostic poem)

Bringing all she had to the table

Anne felt like it just wasn’t enough

Doomed to fail, and fail horribly

Didn’t miss the mark by much

And everything went catastrophically wrong

Yet she realized tomorrow was another chance to do something great

Split (an acrostic alliteration)

So all this preponderance of togetherness made Pete practically sick to his poor stomach

Pushing people away was what Pete was professional at

Leave him in a group of pleasantly participating people

It was doomed to pyrotechnics and pointless pugilism

Then he would peace out, professing he had to pee.

The Ring (a 100 word story)

The ring bound him to her.  He wondered what insanity had caused him to willingly volunteer to wear the cursed thing in the first place.  Still, in that moment of weakness, he had accepted her boon and doomed his soul.

He looked at the perfect circle of gold and thought about chopping the whole finger off.  He’d be better off maimed for the rest of his life.  He couldn’t do it though.  She had taken so much of his strength that he didn’t have the fortitude anymore.

Instead he closed his eyes and dreamt of her when she was alive.
