Can do all the things, I know I can.

Really, it just means pushing a bit more.

And when that doesn’t work, maybe losing a bit more sleep.

Slipping further and further from optimal functioning, falling further and further behind

Heading toward the inevitable conclusion of a hard, hard…

Carbon (an acrostic poem)

Couldn’t see flaws in the diamond on her finger

And he looked hard as he held her hand

Reality sometimes was hard to pencil into a narrative that worked for him

But he usually found a way to turn the coal in his stocking into something way more valuable

On this occasion, he turned his smile up to eleven to see if that would strike a shattering blow

Nothing could deviate her attention from her fiancé.  The boy, on the other hand…

Clock (an acrostic poem)

Counting down the hours, minutes, and seconds was painful

Letting my emotions swing back and forth, back and forth, twisting my gut in knots

Observing how life seems to move in slow motion making breathing difficult

Can’t seem to make those hands spin any faster, even if I stare so hard at the thing I go blind

Killing time sounds like it would be easy, but now I realize time is killing me instead

Pillow (an acrostic poem)

Plowing and sowing the world of sleep

It was hard work, but he was a farmer to his soul

Little furrows stretched to the horizon containing the roots of fertile dreams and scream-inducing nightmares

Lying there, waiting to be harvested

Once he was ready and picked them, Morbius would pay him handsomely for this crop

Wait till the slumbering humans were served these delectables!

Vector (an acrostic poem)

Velocity was too high and from the wrong direction for the two spacecraft to dock.

Even with all the acceleration he had at his fingertips, the joining would not be successful.

Considering the impulse they were about to experience, he shouted, “Brace yourselves!”

The impact caused them to increase angular momentum, spinning them and the forces pinned them hard against their seats.

Observing their attempted destination spin away into the void, he fired the thrusters to arrest the erratic rotation.

Rockets fired and the spacecraft slowed in the gravitational field it floated in.

Pills (an acrostic conversation)

Pretty hard to swallow what you are trying to feed me.”

I know, but it’s good for you, so please?”

Leave me alone.  I don’t wanna.”

Look, I even put it in this smoothie.”

So now you think I’m a dog?”

Tries (an acrostic poem)

The beginning of writing a joke is always hard

Really, the beginning of writing a joke is always hard

It might seem redundant, but the beginning of writing a joke is always hard

Every single time the beginning of writing a joke is always hard

So believe me, the punch line had better be worth it. If not, you have more…

Drug (an acrostic poem)

Don’t think I can get enough of you

Racing through my veins and making my heart beat hard and fast

Until I feel I might explode from the feeling of pure bliss

Grinning, I whisper into your ear, “Give me another hit.”

Enter (an acrostic poem)

Every night Walter left cookies beside his bed

Never expecting them to be gone by morning, but a small part hoped really hard

They were his offering to the Sandman for dreams that never came

Eventually the Sandman had to get hungry and grant him his wish of a dream.  It was Walter’s only hope

Reaching for a snack as he got out of bed, he didn’t notice that the cookie he took reappeared as he walked away.

All of Jessie’s life could be seen in the lines engraved into his face

They told of the many laughs and smiles, the tears and anger, written throughout the years

Looking in the mirror, he reminisced a life lived hard

As he traced those wrinkles, he wondered about the upcoming Botox injection and smoothing it all over

Soul searching if he really wanted to lose that history…  Jessie left with his map intact
