Don’t ask her her age.  That would be so rude!”

As if.  This is a new age, old man.  Age is just a number now.”

That’s a bunch of bull, and you know it.  Ask it and be relegated to the dustbin of relationship history.”

Everything you say tells the universe how old you are.  What was it like to ride a triceratops?”

Don’t worry.  You’ll get to see for yourself when she slaps you so hard she sends you back in time.”

Mast (an acrostic poem)

Image: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/81/USRC_Salmon_P_Chase_-_LoC_4a25817u.jpg

Majestic wooden boats used to sail the seven seas in search of adventure and money

And of those two, money was the more important

So when the age of steam dawned on technology’s horizon, those great ships could see their time sunsetting

That’s when the magic died and shipping became not an adventure, but a commodity, a rich one.

Elvis (an acrostic poem)

Image: kindpng.com/picc/m/212-2122912_stickers-the-shadow-of-elvis-png-download-elvis.png

Every thrust of his hips was planned to showcase his nature

Leaving girls and women screaming at the top of their lungs

Vexing the men that had accompanied them, secretly jealous of his powers

It was a coming of age for an entire generation

Summarized in a single man, an icon, a legend

Starlight (an acrostic poem)

Image: p0.piqsels.com/preview/6/405/273/117kobnrde5ip3kjqhaqbd6l3a.jpg

Stars send speeding photons flying through the nothingness

To land blissfully on my eyes as I look heavenward

Awestruck at the age of the light that graced me

Realizing a small chunk of ancient history

Looking at a place that might not exist anymore

It causes me to pause, wondering what I am casting into the void around me

Giving life to something that will outlast my stay in this universe

Hoping that someone will gaze upon that something and be inspired

To create their own light and cast it into the unknown

Vine (an acrostic poem)

Varicose veins climbed his legs like a trellis

It had purple blossoms of bruises to give that bit extra artistic something

Nothing he did seemed to help with the aches and pains

Except the thought of even at his age something of beauty was still growing within

Youth (an acrostic poem)

Image: recipetineats.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Pizza-Crust-without-yeast_5-SQ.jpg

You remember those days when your body didn’t ache

Or you could eat two pizzas and not gain a pound

Until that dreaded middle age kicked in

That flipped your whole world, but you didn’t notice till it was too late

Here we are now, but there is a silver lining.  Okay, maybe not.

Rail (an acrostic poem)

Image: snopes.com/tachyon/2017/12/train_tracks_fb.jpg

Reaching from one horizon to the other

A pair of dull gray arms hug the hard-compacted earth underneath

Iron spikes cement the bond of their timeless relationship

Lasting valentine to the age of steam

Tasty (an acrostic poem)

The aromas of honey and age greeted Kendra’s nostrils

As she opened it up and inhaled deeply

Salivating a bit she smiled and tried to take it all in

The flavors danced and spun such a complex tale

You never knew how good the story would be in an old book

Ancient (an acrostic poem)

Age practically dripped from his eyes

Narrow crevices in his cheeks channeled it to his down turned lips

Catching on the stubble of his six day old white beard

It collected there until large drops of it plopped to the ground below

Eyeing those around him, he wondered if they realized how quickly time moved

Nothing had prepared him for that rapid transition

Too bad he couldn’t tell time to get off his lawn, else he might be fertilizing it
